I'm Kevin — I've been a full-time private maths tutor for 14 years, one to one, fully online. Most of my work is A-Level and GCSE Maths, across every exam board — and I particularly enjoy working with students who are ahead of their class and need proper stretching, from Further Maths GCSEs right down to preparing bright Year 6s and 7s for the Junior Maths Challenge.

Starting A-Level Maths
The biggest step in the school system — taught once, moving fast, expecting independent practice from week one. Pick your exam board and I'll show you how I'd teach your course, and the past papers and resources to go with it.
Don't know your board? Completely normal — most schools confirm it in September. Start with Edexcel, it's the one most schools do, and everything about how I teach applies whichever board you end up on.

Whichever exam board your school uses — Edexcel, AQA, OCR or IGCSE — the syllabus is nearly identical and I teach all of them. Whether you're heading into your GCSE years or resitting in November, the job's the same: find exactly where the marks are going and fix that.

I've been a full-time private maths tutor for 14 years now — the first seven going round to houses, and every year since 2019 entirely online. In that time I've tutored well over 10,000 hours and taught hundreds of students, across GCSE, A-Level and everything in between, at every exam board.
Sessions are usually one hour a week, always one to one, online. £120 an hour.
Where I fit in, depending on where you are
For younger students who are ahead of their class, school lessons just aren't built to stretch them — so I run my own programme of problem-solving, enrichment and challenge work, including preparing for the Junior Maths Challenge, Kangaroo and Olympiad. It's some of the most valuable teaching there is, because those thinking skills pay off for years afterwards.
At GCSE, for strong mathematicians it's about the top grades and bridging the gap to A-Level — the Further Maths GCSEs are ideal for that, and if your school doesn't offer one, that's no problem at all. I can teach you the whole course myself. Same goes for home-schooled students — I'm not topping up school lessons in that case, I'm the teacher.
And at A-Level — where I've spent more hours than anywhere else — the story is simple: it's taught once, it moves fast, and it expects independent practice from the first week. Most students find that out the hard way at the end of Year 12. The ones who don't are the ones who worked correctly from September, and that's exactly what the weekly structure is for.
What I actually do each week
Checking what school covered
Every week, we go through what's actually landed and what hasn't. I set extra practice wherever it's needed. If something's been taught in a way that hasn't clicked, I'll teach it again my way — properly, from scratch if it needs it.
Keeping you ahead of gaps
The whole point is catching the gaps while they're small, not waiting for a mock to find them for you. That's true whatever you're studying — GCSE, A-Level, the Further Maths GCSEs, all of it.
A proper plan, not just turning up
I work from a study plan built around your actual syllabus and exam board — what to cover, when, and which past papers to use and in what order. You can see the resources I use with my own students on this site for free.
How the online sessions work
We use an online whiteboard called Bitpaper, with a video call alongside it — Microsoft Teams, FaceTime or Whatsapp video, whichever you prefer. The whiteboard is our shared paper: we can both write on it and see each other's working live, and every page is saved automatically.
You get your own permanent classroom, and every whiteboard from every session stays in it — so all your working from every lesson is there to look back on, download or print whenever you want it.
What you'll need
A decent internet connection
That's really it as far as the technical side goes.
A tablet, laptop or desktop
Whatever you've already got is almost certainly fine.
Something to write with
A tablet and stylus works best for the whiteboard — I use an iPad and Apple Pencil myself. No tablet? A cheap graphics tablet plugged into a laptop does the job just as well.
A bit about me
I got 11 A grades at GCSE, back before A* existed, then 4 As at A-Level in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry, and won both my school's maths prizes. I read Maths at university, and after that worked as an accountant and then an actuary before I started tutoring.
I've been doing this full time since 2012 — well over 10,000 hours now, and hundreds of students. I teach the GCSE, IGCSE and A-Level syllabuses several times over every year, which means I know every corner of them, and I know how Edexcel, AQA, OCR, OCR-MEI and Cambridge each like to ask their questions.
What I'm actually good at is breaking things down — taking something that looks complicated, working out which building block underneath it is missing, and explaining it in a way that makes sense to that particular student. I'm patient, and I listen, and after this many students I've got a fair idea of how different people get stuck on the same thing for completely different reasons.
